Steve Rooney became a devoted yoga student in 2001 after his second cancer, and after 25 years helping to lead a museum in New York City, the International Center of Photography. Steve’s treasured life experience includes being the primary caregiver for his first wife during her at-home six months of end-of-life hospice in 2013.

Steve has studied extensively with Gary Kraftsow since 2006 and has also studied with Sonia Nelson, Leslie Kaminoff, and T.K.V.Desikachar. Steve first studied and practiced yoga and t’ai chi in the 1970s.

Steve was one of the original teachers at The Breathing Project in New York (from 2005 through 2013). He retired from his museum career in 2015 and teaches weekly Viniyoga classes and works with private clients in New York City and Amenia, New York.

Steve completed a 200 hour teacher training with Leslie Kaminoff and Zack Kurland at The Breathing Project in 2004 and the 500 hour Viniyoga Teacher Training with Gary Kraftsow in 2007. In 2009 he completed all the course work except his final project for the 500 hour Viniyoga Therapy Training and he is currently re-taking the full program and expects to graduate in early 2018.
