The Journey of Life:
Living Symbols & Personal Practice

All Wisdom Traditions of the world offer paths through which practitioners may experience deep personal transformation on their journey through life. For those who practice with faith, those paths represent an ongoing stream of the Living Tradition that gives direction, purpose, and meaning to their lives. In these traditions, both the landmarks along the path of life and the destination are contained in and revealed by Symbol Systems.

Without a deep personal encounter with these teachings and symbol systems, they may seem irrelevant, dogmatic, or even superstitious. Their true potential only comes alive as we participate in them through commitment to and engagement in authentic Personal Practice.

In this retreat, we will explore core teachings, symbols systems, and practices from the world’s Wisdom Traditions, focusing on Tapas (purification and strengthening), Dāna (giving and serving), and Yajña (reverence and worship) as transmitted through the Vedic & Tantric (Hindu and Buddhist) and Abrahamic (Judeo-Christian) traditions.

In the mirror of these traditions, we will create practices that are alive, full of meaning, and relevant to our personal lives. For some of us, that may involve working with the symbols that flowed through our own ancestral lineage, or even a different one. For others, it may involve working with the meaning implicit in traditional symbols without relying on the symbols themselves. It is up to us to awaken to the Living Presence of these symbols, or to their implicit meaning, and carry the Ancient Teachings forward to enrich our lives and pass on the wisdom to future generations. We can only do that by fully embodying those symbols, meanings, and teachings in our daily lives through on-going personal practice.

The practices in the retreat will utilize the tools and methods of yoga and tantric yoga, including: āsana, prāṇāyāma, chanting, meditation, and the Laya Yoga processes of bhūta śuddhi, cakra sādhana, and Devatā Yoga.

Please plan to attend all sessions.

  • Before I register, is the double room private bath cost for two people? What is the best way from the airport?

    Mebane Jackson Reply
    • Hi Mebane,
The cost for the double room is per person.
You can, of course, rent a car but we will also be organizing groups to share rides in from the airport if you are interested in that.
      Does that answer your question?

    Mebane Jackson Reply
    • We are putting together an email to send today to participants that will have information on ride sharing from the airport.

  • Is there anywhere to view a cost breakdown?

    Mebane Jackson Reply
    • Tuition is $975 and the remainder of the fee, which covers four nights lodging and all meals from Wednesday dinner through Sunday lunch, depends upon your room selection.
