Golden Heart Yoga Workshop with Gary Kraftsow
Yoga for Emotional Healing and Yoga for Stress Management
---
10:30am–1:30pm and 3-6pm each day
We all know that emotional health is fundamental to the maintenance of overall health. The ancients understood emotion as a complex interaction between our mood, cognitive processes, behavior and physiologic responses. In this special course, Gary Kraftsow will present this knowledge in a modern language so that we may employ the wisdom and practices of Yoga to reduce suffering and cultivate our higher human potential.
In this course, explore models of the integrated personality that emerge from Vedic teachings and discover the science of meditation. Each day will include lecture, discussion, and practices that integrate asana, pranayama, chanting, mantra, and meditation.
As we learn to recognize the direct influence that thought and emotion have on our biochemistry, we can develop and cultivate practices that transform negative qualities of mind and promote well-being.
Saturday: 10:30am–1:30-3:00pm
Sunday: 9:00am–noon
In a recent study, 75% of yoga students reported attending yoga classes for stress management and 15% were using yoga specifically for depression or anxiety. Stress and disturbing emotions play a primary role in disease and therefore, emotional health and the skills to relieve stress are fundamental to the maintenance of health in the physical body. Yoga has tremendous potential for assisting the general population with reducing stress and the effects of stress-related diseases.
This weekend with Gary Kraftsow, founder of the American Viniyoga Institute, will include lecture and practice including methods to relieve musculoskeletal tension, relieve headaches, improve sleep, increase feelings of well-being, improve coping strategies for dealing with stressful events and the subsequent negative symptoms of stress, and offer home/office strategies.
Gary developed the successful 12-week program Stress Management for Aetna Insurance Company staff. The intervention introduced tools for managing stress including asana, breathing techniques, relaxation, mental techniques, and education.
