Featured Viniyoga graduates in the Southern California area...

As a follow up to Gary's recent workshops at the San Diego Yoga Journal Conference, we'd like to introduce six American Viniyoga Institute-trained teachers and therapists in the area. We're proud of our graduates and would love for you to have the opportunity to practice with these gifted professionals.

Ann Marie Occhipinti, MA E-RYT 500, AVI Certified Viniyoga Therapist

Ann Marie, founder of Bhuya Yoga LLC, has completed the AVI Yoga Teacher (RYT) and Therapy Training (CYT) with Gary Kraftsow. She holds two masters degrees in education focusing on early childhood development and clinical psychology concentrating on the child and family.

Ann Marie teaches adult and youth yoga programs in Orange County, California. The Bhuya Yoga Program, a holistic learning program designed for kids ages 4-17, promotes health, fitness, independence and well-being. In a lively, loving and fun way, Bhuya Yoga explores and practices techniques for children to balance, strengthen and stretch the developing body enabling flexibility and a peaceful mind. Bhuya Yoga incorporates a structured and supportive environment for children that creates an inclusive avenue for learning.

Janese has been practicing Yoga and meditation since 1969, including the TM Sidhi program and teacher training with the Himalayan Institute in India. She has taught yoga and yoga therapy in the United States, Hong Kong, and Dubai. A graduate of the American Viniyoga Institute's Foundation for Yoga Therapy program, Janese is currently studying for AVI's Certification as ViniYoga Therapist.

Jaruska, introduced to yoga in 1968, has studied with and assisted Gary since 1999. Former vice-president of the Yoga Education Society, she is multi-lingual, a former professional dancer, and certified in different healing modalities including Ayurveda and Lymphatic drainage massage. A resident of La Jolla, CA since 1986, Jaruska serves all age groups and a wide variety of health conditions. Based on her education and experience (including training in India), students in her group as well as private sessions are guided through Viniyoga principles with dedication and enthusiasm.

Juris Zinbergs E-RYT 500, AVI Certified Viniyoga Therapist

Juris began practicing yoga in 1993 and was certified by the American Viniyoga Institute in 1997 . Juris has also completed AVI's Viniyoga Therapist Training. As a faculty assistant for AVI Training Programs, he helps with developing teachers in the Viniyoga tradition. Juris lives in Laguna Beach, California.

Justine Shelton, E-RYT 500, AVI Certified Viniyoga Therapist, Reiki Master

Justine has a private healing practice in Oceanside, CA and is co-director of the Yoga Vista Academy. She began her study with Gary Kraftsow in 2006 and completed her Viniyoga Teacher training in 2009 and therapy training in April of 2011. She specializes in working with people with spinal disc injuries and has run a Cancer Recovery program since 2009. Her videos, Gentle Yoga for a Healthy Low Back and Gentle Yoga for Healthy Knees and Hips were reviewed in the September, 2011 issue of Yoga Journal.

Sarah Mata, E-RYT 500

Sarah began studying with Gary in 1989 and holds an AVI teacher certificate. She has applied the Viniyoga teachings to working therapeutically with heart patients at a UCLA program from 1990-94. She has also taught through the Yoga Works teachers training yoga for the stages of life. Currently she teaches at Loyola Marymount University as well as group and private classes at her home studio in Santa Monica Canyon.
