Early on, I was inspired by TKV Deskichar and Gary Kraftsow to learn recitation of the Yogasutra by memory as a traditional path of yoga practice. Within a year’s time I’d visited Desikachar at his Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in India as well as begun my formal yoga study with Gary at his American Viniyoga Institute, then located in Hawaii. Shortly after, I became aware of S Ramaswami who was a long time student of Krishnamacharya and a founding partner of the KYM along with Desikachar. I reasoned there would be no better teacher from whom to learn the Yogasutra than Ramaswami. ..

A beautiful, diverse and thoughtful group of students from several countries gathered for Session #1 of the American Viniyoga Institute's Viniyoga Foundations Program at Mount Madonna Center, Watsonville, CA on July 24, 2011. The first session of the program covered personal practice, the biomechanics of movement, sequencing, adaptation and an introduction to yoga philosophy and the yoga sutras. ..
Michele Hoffman knows something about setting an intention. Today, Michele is a graduate of AVI’s Yoga Therapist Training Program and is on the staff of Fairview Hospital in Red Wing, MN as a yoga therapist. She creates programs for special populations and sees referrals from departments such as occupational therapy and physical therapy. She teaches therapeutic classes and offers one- on-one sessions. Long before this was reality, however, Michele was called to teach yoga. She created a vision of herself as a therapist and made a flier that she put on her mirror. She saw it every day. It was that flier that she put in the hands of the Fairview Hospital management who decided to hire her. ..
