Click here for FYT OVERVIEW - FYT FAQ Who attends the AVI Yoga Teacher Training Program? Students with a wide range of yoga and yoga teaching experience attend the AVI Teacher Training Program. Some students have never taught yoga and attend our program to deepen their knowledge of yoga and to begin their teaching careers. Many of our students are experienced yoga teachers who have completed other yoga teacher training programs. Experienced teachers attend the program to immerse themselves in the Viniyoga™ approach, to refine their teaching skills, and as a preparation for the AVI Yoga Therapist Training Program. Gary Kraftsow has been actively training Yoga teachers since 1984, and has been offering the AVI Yoga Teacher Training Program since 1999. He has certified over 180 teachers and has many more students who are currently in the training process. For a complete list of AVI certified Yoga teachers, Yoga Therapists and students in training, please CLICK HERE.
Why do you recommend that I take an AVI workshop before attending the AVI Yoga Teacher Training Program? We strongly recommend that students new to the Viniyoga™ approach attend a seminar or retreat with Gary Kraftsow or Mirka Scalco Kraftsow before attending the first teacher training program session. Attendance at an AVI event will provide you with an opportunity to work with the primary teachers in the AVI program, to find out more about the Viniyoga™ approach and to decide if the AVI Yoga Teacher Training Program is the right program for you. We also recommend that you study with Viniyoga™ teachers in your area. Please CLICK HERE for the AVI Teacher Directory. You may register for the AVI Yoga Teacher Training Program before you attend the AVI workshop or seminar. Information about upcoming programs is available on our website, CLICK HERE to go to the Events page. Please register early – many of the events have a limited enrollment. Who teaches the AVI Yoga Teacher Training Program? The primary teachers are Gary Kraftsow, AVI Founder and Director, and Mirka Scalco Kraftsow, AVI Director of Teacher Development. Both GARY and MIRKA have extensive experience in Yoga and Yoga teacher training and have Yoga Alliance ERYT-500 designation. For each program, a dedicated group of program assistants (AVI-certified Yoga teachers and Yoga therapists) teach some portions of program sessions, lead small groups, meet with students about their home study, and maintain contact with students between program sessions. What is the structure of the AVI Yoga Teacher Training Program? The program includes four two week residential sessions over a two year period. In addition, there is guided home study between program sessions. The structure of our training is different than many other Yoga teacher training programs. A new training group begins approximately every two years. Most students who enroll in a training program stay with the same faculty and student group for the four-session program. In our experience, a cohesive training group forms and students actively work to support each other’s learning process, both during and between program sessions. Can the four program sessions in the AVI Yoga Teacher Training Program be taken out of order? Our program sessions build upon each other. Students who cannot attend a specific training session generally make up the program session the next time the missed program session is offered. What is a "typical" day in a program session? Each program session begins with an evening orientation followed by fourteen training days. Each training day is full and includes 7 to 8 hours of lectures, practice, and small group experiences. A typical day begins with an early morning practice followed by breakfast, a three hour morning session, a lunch break and a three hour afternoon/early evening session. We have two scheduled days off in each fourteen day program session. Students use the days off to rest, study and complete training assignments. Where is the training program held? The training program is held at Mount Madonna Center in Watsonville, Californina. Most of our students stay at Mount Madonna Center during the training. A commuter option is also available. What is the cost of the AVI Teacher Training Program? How do I register? Click here for AVI Yoga Teacher Training Program Information Sheet. Is the AVI Yoga Teacher Training Program registered with Yoga Alliance? Yes, the AVI Yoga Teacher Training Program is registered Yoga Alliance under the new 2008 standards for 500-hour teacher training programs. After graduation from the program, students may register with Yoga Alliance by submitting their AVI diploma together with documentation of 100 hours of yoga teaching. Why do I need to complete the AVI Yoga Teacher Training Program before I attend the AVI Yoga Therapist Training Program? The AVI Yoga Therapist Training Program is open to Yoga teachers who have completed either the AVI Yoga Teacher Training Program or the AVI Foundation for Yoga Therapy Program. The Viniyoga™ approach to yoga is unique. Throughout the AVI Yoga Teacher Training Program, we emphasize the theory and philosophy of this approach and the skills/tools necessary for effective yoga teaching. The theory and skills you will learn in the teacher training program form the foundation of our approach to Yoga Therapy. The AVI Foundation for Yoga Therapy Program is designed for Yoga teachers who wish to enter the AVI Yoga Therapist Training Program to study for AVI certification as a Yoga Therapist. While not as intensive as the AVI Yoga Teacher Training Program, the AVI Foundation for Yoga Therapy Program focuses on the content and experiences that we view as most important to prepare experienced Yoga teachers for study as a Yoga Therapist in the Viniyoga™ tradition. This program is open to Yoga teachers who have completed a 500 hr Yoga teacher training program at a school registered through the Yoga Alliance. "I Cannot Fully Express Just How Valuable This Has Been..." "This AVI training has given me a much greater understanding of myself." "I cannot fully express just how valuable this has been to also get to know my skeletal structure as well as my mental and emotional processes." "Through this, my relationships with friends and family have deepened and improved, thank you, Gary and Mirka for providing these gifts in such a delightful community spirit." Jennifer H. -California; M.S., mother, wife, biologist and yoga instructor -California
