FYT11 Overview
Program Overview
The AVI Foundation for Yoga Therapy (FYT) Professional Training Program is a two-session immersion in the Viniyoga™ methodology, which forms the foundation for the Viniyoga approach to Yoga Therapy. FYT is for yoga teachers who have already completed a Yoga teacher training program in another tradition and wish to enter the AVI Viniyoga Therapist Professional Training Program beginning in March 2012.
Eligibility to Apply
• Yoga teachers who have completed a 500-hour Yoga teacher training program from a school registered with the Yoga Alliance
• Yoga teachers who have completed a 500-hour Yoga teacher training from a school not registered with Yoga Alliance
• Health professionals who have completed at least a 200 hour yoga teacher training from a school registered with the Yoga Alliance
• Health professionals who have completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training from a school not registered with Yoga Alliance can apply to the FYT program but are encouraged to consider the AVI Viniyoga Teacher Training as the most ideal preparation for entering the AVI Viniyoga Therapist Training.
Program Content
Over two training sessions, the following content areas will be emphasized:
1. The Viniyoga tradition
2. Principles of breath and movement
3. Biomechanics of asana
4. Observation of individuals and groups
5. Principles of adaptation
6. Art and science of sequencing
7. Pranayama: theory and practice
8. Meditation, sound, ritual and prayer
Program Faculty
This program is taught by Gary Kraftsow, MA, E-RYT 500 with the assistance of Clare Collins, RN, PhD, E-RYT 500 and experienced AVI-certified teachers and Yoga Therapists.
Program Format
There are two sessions in the AVI Foundation for Yoga Therapy Program. Sessions must be taken in order and both sessions must be completed before enrollment in the AVI Viniyoga Therapist Training Program.
The next AVI Foundation for Yoga Therapy Professional Training Program begins in February 2011 at Mount Madonna Center in Watsonville, California. The dates for the two-session training program are as follows:
Session #1: February 13 - 25, 2011
Session #2: October 10 - 21, 2011
The training format includes lecture, practices to illustrate key concepts, question and answer sessions, small group processes and home study. A Student Manual is distributed and used at both training sessions.
Program Cost
The fees for tuition and lodging at Mount Madonna Center are included on the AVI Foundation for Yoga Therapy Training Program Information Page.
Application Procedure
To apply for this program, please download and complete the FYT Program Application PDF or APPLICATION DOC.
Instructions for completion and submission are included on the application. All applications will receive acknowledgement of receipt and status within four weeks. Early application is encouraged! Available spaces are limited for this program.
Registration Procedure
To register for this program, you must first receive approval for registration from AVI Student Advisor Dona Robinson. You will be directed to the Mount Madonna website at that time for registration and payment of deposit.
After registration, you will receive an email confirmation from Mount Madonna Center.
