Research and Consultation
Consultation, research and collaboration are a part of AVI's work. Gary Kraftsow and Mirka Scalco Kraftsow are available for consultation and research support.
Gary has collaborated on projects with the Arthritis Foundation and in the fields of physical therapy education and mental health.
Gary is currently collaborating on:
- consulting with writers for articles on various aspects of yoga for national magazines
- designing classes and training teachers "Evaluating Yoga for Chronic Low Back Pain" - National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine
- designing classes and training teachers "Yoga Therapy for Generalized Anxiety" - National Institutes of Health
- proposed abdominal obesity study
- consulting on the establishment of national standards for Yoga Therapists
- emphysema group
- consulting with yoga and other health professionals on bringing the yogic tools - as an adjunct to other modalities of health care
- consulting with yoga teachers on working in the therapeutic context
- consulting with yoga teachers for developing their private business practice
Yoga Therapy
Yoga Therapy has the potential to help people manage structural, physiological, and psychological conditions. Symptoms that cut across many chronic conditions include sleep problems, digestive disturbances, pain, and fatigue. Individualized Yoga Therapy and specially-designed therapeutic yoga classes may help reduce symptoms, improve function, address psycho-social limitations caused by chronic disease, improve awareness of lifestyle choices and the effect on their disease condition, and educate about healthy lifestyle choices.
